The Top 20 Things We’ve Learned During Lockdown!

We’ve been in lockdown now for almost four months, and like many others we couldn’t have imagined not being able to climb for this long. More importantly, we couldn’t have imagined not seeing all the friendly faces in our community for so long.

Even though we’ve spent most of the lockdown yearning to climb again, we’ve learned some important things about ourselves and about Boulders so we thought we’d share some of the best lessons here.

  1. Everyday feeling like the weekend is no good when you can’t go climbing!

  2. Exactly how resourceful climbers can be when they need their fix.

  3. Anything can be a campus board if you believe hard enough.

  4. There is no outdoor climbing within 5 miles of the centre.

  5. Working from home isn’t the promised land we thought it would be.

  6. We can both love our family and be incredibly irritated by them in equal amounts!

  7. You’re never too old to play with Lego.

  8. Buying climbing kit online isn’t a patch on visiting a climbing shop and chatting for hours about the breaking strain of karabiners.

  9. Ollie makes a terrible Postman Pat, even though he does have a black and white dog. We hope he managed to successfully deliver your shop orders!

  10. Boulders’ front door doesn’t have a letter box… (sorry Royal Mail!)

  11. Social distancing in supermarkets is actually a brilliant idea – can we keep doing it please?

  12. Apparently, you don’t need 1000 loo rolls for four months.

  13. That we didn’t know how much we loved pasta until it was impossible to buy it.

  14. That we actually missed Max’s terrible jokes (please don’t tell him!)

  15. Just how easy it is to have a full conversation with a French bulldog – or any pet really. As long as you keep them fed and give them lots of cuddles, they’re amazing listeners.

  16. Apparently you don’t need beer or a pub to attend a quiz night, just a Zoom account. Although it just doesn’t feel the same.

  17. How many meetings could have been one simple email before lockdown.

  18. Just how many rubbish movies there are out there! Who else has spent what feels like hours aimlessly browsing Netflix?

  19. That we have a truly amazing, supportive community. We always believed it, but the last few months have proved it.

  20. What we miss about climbing isn’t just the climbing. Stay safe everyone, we hope to see you all soon!
